Children's English Head Start Program
ÖÐÎÄ
Mission:
Give children a head start in learning English by helping them to master the most essential knowledge which makes-up the foundation for speaking English correctly and fluently in years to come.
Philosophy:
Chinese parents are becoming more and more aware of the importance of learning English. As a result, many schools have begun teaching English as early as the first grade or even kindergarten rather than waiting until later years to begin providing these valuable classes. Yet, a clear and distant gap still remains between students' abilities to read or write English and their abilities to speak and understand oral English.
In fact, the reason this gap exists is not difficult to identify. Although children are beginning to learn English at a younger age, they still have very few opportunities to practice and perfect speaking what they have learned or to demonstrate they understand what is being spoken to them. Typical English classes last between 40 to 60 minutes and consist of 30 to 50 students per class. These limits greatly reduce these students' chances to actually converse in English and eliminate the possibility of being able to meaningfully communicate in English on a regular basis.
The purpose of my class is to fill this gap by giving these students an opportunity to speak and communicate with a native English speaker one-on-one several times per week.
